Welcome to 2018! I have one question when it comes to your health and happiness: Are you All In? I spent the better part of December figuring out what I want my 2018 to look like. I made categories, I made lists, I made lists of the categories. I wrote in detail about each one and I’ve come to the conclusion that I am great at making goals. In fact, I am the superwoman of goal making. There’s one issue I have and that’s follow through. I am ready to change all that this year. It’s really important that I ask of myself what I am asking of my clients, students, and readers in helping them achieve their goals. So I am going All In. I’ll be sharing my journey here as well on my Facebook page and on Instagram. Take a read below and hopefully that you’ll be All In too!
First: Create a Wellness Vision. Read last year’s 2017 New Year’s Post, Love It, Leave It, Change It, Add It. Remember, the Wellness Vision is a positive, affirmative statement in the present tense of your best wellness self one year out.
Second: Choose Your Topic. Based on what you have written for your Wellness Vision, I want you to choose the one thing in your vision that you have a burning desire to change. It’s the one that makes you both excited and nervous to think about reaching. You know that if you achieve it, you will be happier, period.
Third: Create a 3 Month Goal. Based on what you have chosen, create this around the one area you have chosen from your Wellness Vision. That’s 12 weeks. It’s not important if your goal is something that may take a year. Chunk it out in quarters. We are working on the first 12 weeks.
Fourth: Prepare and Clear the Decks. I can’t stress this enough. Prepare your life in all ways for the amazing 12 week journey you are about to undertake. Clear the decks to ensure you are setting yourself up for success. For example, if weight loss is your goal, clear the pantry, set your food shopping day, research recipes, find a food tracker, carve out time to cook, find healthier places for take out, sign up for the gym, buy the class pack, join the sports team, map out your fitness wardrobe, sit down and make a weekend and weekday exercise schedule. I think you get the idea.
Fifth: Go All In. There are 3 components to going All In:
Integrity: Be impeccable with your word. Do what you say you are going to do. Nothing wears away at confidence than being lazy with our word. For more about it, read the timeless classic The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. If you say you are going to exercise three times this week, you do it. It may be more comfortable to let yourself down out of habit, but I challenge you to honor yourself by keeping your word for 12 weeks.
Focused Attention: My most successful clients were the ones who kept it simple and consistent. Some of us are wiley creatures that can get easily distracted. Worse yet, if we don’t see immediate success, we ditch the goal in search of a new one. Nope, it’s not going to happen this time. One goal, 12 weeks. Period.
Commitment: This is the fuel for the fire. Ask yourself this: Why this goal and why now? Really think about it. This is your motivation to commit to your goal. To generate both FUN and ACCOUNTABILITY, share it with trusted friends and family or on social media. In fact, I encourage you whole-heartedly do to it. There’s a good chance that they’ll want to join you.
Let’s get going, All In 2018 here we come!
